2011 – Nicole Dieker (Hello, The Future!, Mink Car Cover fundraiser) posts a video on YouTube of her singing a caroling song about the Doubleclicks (to the tune of “Caroling Caroling” by Alfred Burt).
In Feb. of 2024 I e-mailed Nicole Dieker as I was simply out of ideas when it came to figuring out some of the lyrics to her song. This is what I had come up with so far when I wrote her:
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks now we go learning more about them
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks now we know we cannot live without them
_____ voices sweet and clear, twice as many songs to hear
Sing a--long it's satisfyingly geeky
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks one and two, plus a ukulele
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks I know you were both playing _____
_____ _____ and dwarves and Ve--lociraptors at the doors
Sing a--long it's satisfyingly geeky
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks one more time 'cuz it's fun to say them
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks I hope I'm convincing you to play them
With a cello doubling base while _____ Spock remains in space
Sing a--long and learn their songs you can't go wrong they're satisfyingly geeky
She very kindly wrote me back and said that between the video being so old, and of such poor quality, she couldn’t remember all the words, and that she might have even improvised it for all she knew. And that in any case, it was certainly a one take deal. She was however able to flesh out a bit more of the lyrics. Here’s what she sent back:
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks now we go learning more about them
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks now we know we cannot live without them
Double voices sweet and clear, twice as many songs to hear
Sing along it's satisfyingly geeky
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks one and two, plus a ukulele
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks I know you are both pleni sunt caeli
Et terra hots (????) and dwarves and Velociraptors at the doors
Sing along it's satisfyingly geeky
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks one more time 'cuz it's fun to say them
Doubleclicks Doubleclicks I hope I'm convincing you to play them
With a cello doubling bass while one true Spock remains in space
Sing along and learn their songs you can't go wrong they're
satisfyingly geeky
Regarding the Latin in the second verse, she said “My guess is that the word after “terra” is also Latin. It sounds like something I would have done. This roughly translates as “Doubleclicks I know you are both full of heaven and earth and SOMETHING and dwarves,” but who even knows.”
So there you have it. That’s as close to complete as we’re ever likely to get. Super big thanks to Nicole Dieker for indulging my quest, her time and help in getting us this far, and for putting this song out into the world. They are indeed “satisfyingly geeky”. 🙂
